New UAB coach Trent Dilfer contract details revealed

The University of Alabama board of trustees approved a five-year contract for new UAB head coach Trent Dilfer on Monday.

UAB athletic director Mark Ingram said that Dilfer’s contract will run through Jan. 2028 and will pay him $1.3 million annually. Before arriving at UAB, Dilfer was the head coach of Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, winning back-to-back state championships in 2021 and 2022. Dilfer won a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens during a 14-year NFL career. He has also worked as an ESPN analyst and head quarterback coach of the Elite 11, an annual event that attracts the nation’s top high school quarterbacks.

The board of trustees’ compensation committee also approved contracts for UAB offensive coordinator Alex Mortensen and defensive coordinator Sione Ta’ufo’ou. Mortensen received a two-year contract at $325,000 annually while Ta’ufo’ou received a two-year deal at $225,000.
