New restaurant coming to location of popular long-time downtown Birmingham diner
A new restaurant is opening on the site of a familiar Birmingham diner, and it promises a slightly different kind of menu.
On a Bun will be located at 2328 Second Avenue North in Birmingham, the former location of Yo Mama’s, which relocated earlier this year to Fourth Avenue North.
The restaurant closed at the old location Dec. 21 for Christmas break.
The move came via a deal with the City of Birmingham last year which gave the restaurant a new space and provided a needed tenant for a parking deck.
The new restaurant is also a venture of Yo Mama’s owners Denise Peterson and her daughter Crystal Peterson.
A reel posted on the Yo Mama’s Facebook page proclaimed, “Did you know Mama’s got a new concept call @onabunbham that is #GFGoodness as well…”
On a Bun will offer a gluten-free menu and be open Tuesday through Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m.
Sneak previews on social media include a thick cheeseburger, a catfish sandwich (which got a sneak preview at Yo Mama’s), a fried hot chicken sandwich and onion rings, among other items.
An opening date has not yet been announced.
