New Publix store under way in Gulf Shores

An investor paid $3.675 million for 59 Storage of Robertsdale on Annandale Drive in Robertsdale, according to Herrington Realty, which handled the transaction. The 60,000-square-foot facility has 333 units including the RV slots.

A Pensacola-based investor paid $260,000 for a 1,300-square-foot building at 69 St. Michael St., in downtown Mobile, according to Pratt Thomas of Merrill P. Thomas Co., who represented both sides in the transaction. The building is leased to Slurp Society Ramen Shop and the restaurant that will continue to operate in that location. The building is across from the Battle House Renaissance Mobile Hotel & Spa.

Alabama School of Nail Technology & Cosmetology has leased 1,400 square feet in Bayou Sara Square at 213 Saraland Ave., in Saraland, according to John M. Delchamps of Merrill P. Thomas Co., who handled both sides of the transaction. The location is near U.S. 43 and Celeste and Shelton Beach roads.

Demolition is under way on the former Winn-Dixie building on Gulf Shores Parkway near Zaxby’s in Gulf Shores to make way for a new Publix supermarket, according to planning records. The adjacent former Tuesday Morning building will remain at the site. The grocery building footprint is about 25,000 square feet and most Publix stores are 50,000 to 60,000 square feet. The new store could be a prototype for Publix’s new store concept called GreenWise stores. The GreenWise stores typically occupy 25,000 square feet and focus on organic and prepared foods for health conscious and gourmet foodies. The stores feature meats smoked in-store, sausages made on site, gourmet sandwiches and burrito bowls.

Watch for Culver’s restaurant to build a 4,500-square-foot restaurant at the northwest corner of Canal Road and Wharf parkway East in Orange Beach.
