New Orleans Saints waive former Alabama lineman

The New Orleans Saints have waived offensive tackle Scott Lashley with an injury designation, the NFL team announced on Wednesday.

The injury designation means Lashley will revert to injured reserve for the Saints if he is not claimed by another NFL team by 3 p.m. CDT Thursday.

If Lashley lands on injured reserve, he would miss the 2023 NFL season unless New Orleans releases him with an injury settlement. If that happened, Lashley would be free to sign with another team when he is healthy.

Lashley’s injury was not disclosed.

Lashley signed with the Saints in May after attending New Orleans’ rookie minicamp as a tryout player.

Lashley did not play in 2022, when he worked as a member of the Mississippi State strength and conditioning staff.

Lashley spent the first four seasons of his college career at Alabama.

After a redshirt season in 2016, Lashley played in three games in 2017, eight games in 2018 and eight games in 2019. In his final two seasons with the Crimson Tide, Lashley played 136 offensive snaps.

Lashley transferred to Mississippi State in 2020, but an injury caused him to miss the entire season. He returned in 2021 to start 12 games at right tackle for the Bulldogs.
