New Orleans police confiscate 10-foot python on Bourbon Street

It’s likely New Orleans police have seen just about everything in the French Quarter, particularly during Mardi Gras.

So when an officer patrolling the French Quarter late last Saturday night saw a man holding a 10-foot albino python, it’s hard to know whether he was surprised or not.

But others were, including Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry, who posted about the snake on social media.

NOLA.com reports the snake was transported to the Audubon Zoo, where it will remain indefinitely.

Meanwhile, the man who was in possession of the snake has been cited for possession of a wild/exotic animal and exhibition without a permit. The report says Wilson was using the snake to solicit from passersby.

He was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for the same violations, as well as resisting arrest, stemming from a similar incident on Bourbon Street last November, NOLA.com reported. He was also violating a court order which prohibited him from displaying the python outside his residence.

The python, native to Southeast Asia, won’t be making the Audubon Zoo its permanent home, a spokesperson told the outlet. The zoo will care for the snake until notified otherwise by police and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Ultimately, there is a possibility the man could recover the snake, if he obtains the proper permits, according to the report.
