New Mexico State transfer DB Syrus Dumas commits to Auburn
Auburn added its 21st commit from the transfer portal over the weekend when New Mexico State transfer defensive back and Homewood native Syrus Dumas announced his commitment via ON3′s Auburn Live.
Dumas is the 42nd new player to enter the Auburn program since Hugh Freeze took over as Auburn’s coach. He’s the ninth player, including receivers Shane Hooks (Jackson State), Jyaire Shorter (North Texas), and Caleb Burton (Ohio State), Quarterback Payton Thorne (Michigan State), linebacker Larry Nixon III (North Texas), offensive lineman Jaden Muskrat, and rushers Steven Sings V (Liberty), Jalen McLeod (Appalachian State) to commit after April 8th when spring football ended with the A-Day scrimmage.
Last season Dumas had 47 tackles and two interceptions for New Mexico State, who Auburn plays this season at Jordan-Hare. He racked up 87 tackles and five interceptions during two seasons at New Mexico State after starting his career at Independence Community College in Kansas.
Dumas and Tigers open the 2023 season at Jordan-Hare on Sept 2 against UMass.
