New Jersey joins Ohio in preventing bets on Alabama baseball, per ESPN

Two days after a wager on Alabama baseball led to the halting of bets being accepted in Ohio, another state joined them.

Sportsbooks in New Jersey were issued an order on Wednesday to stop taking any bets on the Crimson Tide, according to a tweet by ESPN reporter David Payne Purdum.

Alabama’s 8-6 loss to LSU on April 28 was flagged by an independent monitoring service after a large bet was placed in the Great American Ballpark sportsbook in Cincinnati. Regulators with the Ohio Casino Control Commission are investigating the matter, a spokesperson told AL.com.

“Alabama Athletics became aware of this situation Monday evening and is actively seeking information about the report,” the University of Alabama’s athletic department said in a statement Tuesday evening.
