New Huntsville superintendent tackling districtâs toughest problems
Longtime educator Clarence Sutton was named Huntsville City Schools superintendent in June, replacing Christie Finley, who retired after five years in the position.
No stranger to the school district, Sutton was promoted to chief of staff last December. He previously served as deputy superintendent of learning supports, a role he was still filling when he was named interim superintendent during the search process.
He was one of 20 applicants for the position.
A 29-year educator, Sutton touted his experience turning around troubled schools during his career during his interview for the position. His career included time as a teacher, assistant principal and principal. He served in the Tuscaloosa school district before coming to Huntsville.
He recently participated in a question-and-answer session with the Lede.
