New Gulf Coast venue bringing Jason Isbell, Melissa Etheridge, Sam Hunt

A brand new amphitheater within an hour’s drive of Mobile has announced an inaugural lineup including Jason Isbell, Melissa Etheridge, Justin Moore and Sam Hunt.

The Sound is an 8,000-seat open-air venue in Gautier, just west of Pascagoula. It’s a part of a larger Towns Common Park development; for the amphitheater, the city partnered with 46 Entertainment. That company’s president, Nathan Baugh, is a native of the Mobile area and a partner in the Cullman festival Rock the South.

Tickets for most of the concerts announced Tuesday will go on sale Friday, March 1 through Ticketmaster. They are:

  • KC & The Sunshine Band, April 12, tickets starting at $20.
  • Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit with the North Mississippi Allstars, April 19, $44.50.
  • Justin Moore with Chris Cagle, May 24, starting at $29.50.
  • Sam Hunt, Sept. 6, ticket details not yet announced.
  • Melissa Etheridge with Jewel, Sept. 28, starting at $34.50.

Aside from music, the venue offers food as an attraction. The amphitheater’s website promises “a delectable array of Southern cuisine, ensuring that every visit is a feast for the senses.” Food trucks will provide additional options at shows, it says.

The Sound will be roughly 45 minutes from downtown Mobile via I-10 and U.S. 90. The next closest large open-air amphitheater is the 10,000-seat Wharf Amphitheater in Orange Beach. A casino north of Mobile, Wind Creek Atmore, presents shows in an amphitheater that seats about 2,500. When local officials and project partners held a groundbreaking in February 2023, the estimate the economic impact of The Sound at $13 million to $15 million per year.
