New greeter? Photo shows large gator parked outside Louisiana Dollar General

Florida clearly isn’t the only state where alligators show up in unusual places, as staff and customers at a Dollar General store in southern Louisiana learned Tuesday morning.

In the predawn hours, a large alligator was found in front of the store’s automatic glass doors, as if waiting patiently for the store to open.

The Plaquemine’s Parish Sheriff’s Office was alerted and responded to the scene, posting a photo of the gator in front of the store to the sheriff’s office Facebook page.

“This little fella was patiently waiting for the Dollar General to open this morning!” the caption read.

The sheriff’s office added to the lightheartedness in the comment section, noting the gator was laying near a poster for Little Debbie snack cakes.

“For all you inquiring minds, Mr. Gator picked up his Little Debbie snacks, hopped in his truck and went fishing at the Civic Drive Fishing Pier in Port Sulphur,” they wrote. “He’s just #LivingTheDream.”

Facebook users joined in the fun, with comments ranging from a suggestion the gator was the new security guard to another that the gator had eaten all his hurricane snacks and needed to reload.

The sheriff’s office gave no indication of what actually became of the gator, although it’s presumed animal control officers relocated the reptile to a more appropriate location.
