New construction tops $92 million in Huntsville area since March 6

An office building in the Redstone Gateway and alterations to a steel plant in Decatur are among the top construction projects that have started since March 6 in the Huntsville area.

Overall, 199 building permits were issued topping $92 million in Madison, Limestone and Morgan counties, according to Southern Exposure Information. Eight of the projects exceeded $1 million.

  • Huntsville issued 56 permits topping $52 million.
  • Madison County issued 86 totaling $20.6 million.
  • Decatur issued 23 permits totaling $12.4 million.
  • Madison issued 25 permits totaling $7 million.

The most expensive project is a $25 million, 125,000-square foot building at 8500 Redstone Gateway. Brasfield & Gorrie is working on the office building, which is managed by COPT Defense Properties.

Brasfield & Gorrie’s work in the Huntsville area has spanned projects in the commercial, aerospace, government, healthcare and industrial sectors. Notable projects include NASA test stands, the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, Bryant Bank, Alabama School of Cyber Technology, Dynetics, U.S. Courthouse, Davidson’s Technologies’ headquarters and Redstone Gateway buildings 1000, 1200 and 7000 in addition to 8500.

Two permits totaling more than $8 million were issued for alterations to the Nucor Towers and Structures facility at 913 Maero St. NW in Decatur. Fite Construction of Decatur, which is involved with several high-profile projects in the area, is the contractor for the alterations. The permit was issued to the City of Decatur’s Industrial Development Board

Fite is the builder of the recreation center at John Hunt Park, a preschool in Town Madison and several downtown Decatur projects.

Pierce & Alfred of Florence is the contractor for a $7.8 million new building at 28719 Old Highway 20 in Huntsville. The building permit was issued to Jar Properties.

ADI Construction is working on a $4 million building at 2296 Zierdt Rd. SW in Huntsville. The permit was issued to Justin Dorning of Redstone Federal Credit Union.

A permit was issued for a $3.7 million alteration at 6519 University in Huntsville. It was issued to Jeffrey Holgerson of Greenway Auto. Rives Construction of Birmingham is listed as the contractor.

Mainland 291 Pine Grove, LLC, was issued a permit for a $3.4 million, 10,405-square-foot building at 291 Pine Grove Rd. in Madison. The Learning Experience is listed at the address.

Vericon Construction Company of Mountainside, New Jersey, is working on a $2.9 million building at 2104 Winchester Rd. NW in Huntsville. The building permit was issued to David Garnett.

There will also be a $1 million alteration to The Range office building at 3810 Governors Drive NW in Huntsville. The work will be done in unit 200 by SW Commercial Contracting of Madison. Merit Bank and the Alabama Vision Center are among The Range’s tenants.

Lennar Homes of Alabama was the top homebuilder. It was issued 19 permits totaling $4.6 million. Rausch Coleman Homes was issued 25 permits totaling $2.5 million.
