New Brockton High School football player dies after collapsing at practice, report says
A football player at New Brockton High School died after collapsing during practice, WTYV News reported on Tuesday night.
The report said that the player, who was unnamed, suffered a medical episode during practice, resulting in his collapse.
He was then transported to Medical Center Enterprise by Enterprise Rescue and died, Coffee County coroner Aaron Woodham said in a statement.
A joint routine investigation between Coffee County sheriff Scott Byrd, his office, the New Brockton Police Department and the Coffee County District Attorney Jame Tarbox’s office will be conducted soon, WTYV reported.
“This is a very emotional time for the family and Emergency Responders involved,” Woodham said in a statement. “There will be more information released at a later time. Please respect and pray for the family during this difficult time,” Coroner Woodham went on to say in his statement.”
New Brockton is scheduled to host Barbour County in a jamboree on Friday night at 7 p.m. The team opens the regular season Aug. 23 at Pike Liberal Arts.
