Netflix’s Mike Tyson-Jake Paul fight postponed; Here’s why

The Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight scheduled for July 20 on Netflix is postponed due to Tyson’s recent ulcer flare-up.

Tyson will need to stop training, and the fight against Paul will be rescheduled for later in the year.

“I want to thank my fans around the world for their support and understanding during this time. Unfortunately, due to my ulcer flare-up, I have been advised by my doctor to lighten my training for a few weeks to rest and recover,” Tyson told Netflix. “My body is in better overall shape than it has been since the 1990s, and I will be back to my full training schedule soon.

“Jake Paul, this may have bought you some time, but in the end you will still be knocked out and out of boxing for good. I appreciate everyone’s patience and can’t wait to deliver an unforgettable performance later this year.”

Paul also released a statement:

“I fully support postponing the event so Mike Tyson has no excuses come fight night,” Paul told Netflix. “My fans know I don’t want to face Iron Mike at anything but his best, but let there be no mistake – when he steps into the ring with me, I will be ready to claim my W with a sensational finish. Paul vs Tyson will be one for the ages, and I promise to bring my best for this once-in-a-lifetime matchup.”

The heavyweight fight will consist of eight two-minute rounds with each fighter using 14-ounce gloves. The outcome will count toward each boxer’s record.

Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs) will be 58 when he fights the 27-tear-old Paul.

Paul (9-1, 6 KOs) has beaten former UFC stars Nate Diaz, Anderson Silva and Tyron Woodley. Paul, who turned pro four years ago, is coming off back-to-back first-round knockouts of Andre August and Ryan Bourland.

Tyson, the undisputed heavyweight champion from 1987 to 1990, last fought Roy Jones to a draw in a 2020 boxing match.
