Netflix to release ‘Sign Stealer’ documentary on Connor Stalions, Michigan

The college football world will now hear from Connor Stalions, the man at the center of the Michigan football sign-stealing controversy.

Netflix announced Monday it is set to release on “Sign Stealer” on Aug. 27, and it will feature a sit down with Stalions for his side of the story, which led to the multi-game suspension of then-Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh during the CFP national championship season.

The streaming service will also have two other “Untold” features set to debut.

  • The Murder of Air McNair (Aug 20): Capturing the Titans’ 2000 Super Bowl run and unanswered questions surrounding McNair’s 2009 murder.
  • Hope Solo vs. U.S. Soccer (Sept 3): Solo unpacks two decades of glory and scandal that accompanied her rise to a level of fame that transcended her sport.

Much was made during the days leading up to the College Football Playoff semifinal game in the Rose Bowl about Michigan’s sign-stealing scandal.

As it turns out, Stalions was in the stands watching No. 1 Michigan defeat No. 4 Alabama 27-20 in overtime.

Per the New York Post, Stalions had tickets to the Rose Bowl, as shown in an Instagram story posted by former Michigan star Chase Winovich.

In November, Michigan fired Stalions as a football staff member because of the ongoing sign stealing scandal. He had been suspended with pay from his job as a football analyst while the school looked into allegations that he helped organize a complex multi-state operation to record future Wolverines opponents’ on-field signals, which is against NCAA rules.

Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh has denied knowledge of the sign-stealing operation, which reportedly involved Stalions purchasing tickets or securing sideline access for himself or his representatives at numerous games involving the Wolverines’ Big Ten or potential postseason opponents.
