Netflix denies ‘Squid Game’ reality show injuries in sub-zero temps: ‘It was like a warzone’

Netflix is defending the conditions in which participants of the new “Squid Game” reality series participated.

The Sun tabloid reports that players had been severely injured during production. In the upcoming “Squid Game: The Challenge,” The Sun reports contestants felt unwell and experienced frostbite after playing the game Red Light, Green Light – in which they have to remain motionless to win for hours – in below freezing temperatures.

“We care deeply about the health and safety of our cast and crew, and invested in all the appropriate safety procedures. While it was very cold on set — and participants were prepared for that — any claims of serious injury are untrue,” Netflix and Studio Lambert, which is co-producing “Squid Game: The Challenge” along with The Garden, said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Sun reports one player said, “It was like a warzone. People left in tears.”

One exhausted player was stretchered away and others had to crawl to the finish, per the report.

The show, with 456 contestants from around the world, has a $4.56 million cash prize. The format recreates real-life versions of the games played in “Squid Game.” Other games from the series included Tug of War, Marbles and Hopscotch.

“Squid Game” told the story of a divorced father and gambler who enters a secret competition where 456 players compete in a series of playground games. The losers of each round are executed until just one victor remains. The series was a global hit and has been renewed for a second season at Netflix.
