Nephew critical after being pistol-whipped by uncle in Lee County: Sheriff

A 40-year-old man is in a Georgia hospital in critical condition after he was allegedly pistol-whipped by his uncle until he lost consciousness early Friday morning in Alabama, authorities said.

Lee County sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call of gunshots and an unresponsive man around 12:19 a.m. Friday in the 15000 block of U.S. Highway 280 East in Smiths Station, WRBL reported.

Efforts by AL.com to reach the sheriff’s office were unsuccessful.

Deputies found a 40-year-old man unconscious at the scene.

The victim was taken to Piedmont Hospital in Columbus, Georgia, where he was listed in critical condition as of Friday afternoon.

Witnesses told authorities the victim was in an argument with his uncle when his uncle pulled out a gun and pistol-whipped the victim until the victim lost consciousness.

Jamey Dillard, 46, of Smiths Station was arrested and charged with first-degree assault.

He was taken to the Lee County jail, where he remains held on $50,000 bond.
