NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player odds and best bets ahead of the Final Four

Auburn is back in the Final Four for the first time in six years, due mainly to Johni Broome.

The Wooden Award finalist and SEC player of the year led the Tigers to the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament by scoring 18.7 points per game and leading the nation in both rebounds (10.9) and blocks per game (2.1).

That makes Broome the favorite from Auburn to win NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player. But with the Tigers having the longest odds to cut down the nets in San Antonio this weekend, Broome has the third-shortest odds to win the MOP.

Here’s a look at the odds and how to bet at the best Alabama sportsbooks.

NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player odds

*Odds as of April 4, courtesy of BetMGM Sportsbook

  • Cooper Flagg, Duke (+105)
  • Walter Clayton, Florida (+375)
  • Johni Broome, Auburn (+700)
  • L.J. Cryer, Houston (+1000)
  • Milos Uzan, Houston (+1200)
  • Kon Knueppel, Duke (+2000)
  • Tahaad Pettiford, Auburn (+2000)

The Blue Devils are the favorite to win the national title, which is why Flagg, the superstar freshman and Broome’s main Wooden Award competition, is the heavy favorite.

But only 13 players have ever been named tournament MOP in a losing effort, and none since Houston’s Akeem Olajuwon in 1983 — after the Cougars lost to North Carolina State in the national championship game that year. That means if Flagg and Duke don’t win it all, a player from the championship-winning team will earn the honors.

Tournament MOP favorites

Cooper Flagg, Duke (+105)

The superstar freshman has taken the tournament by storm by averaging 19.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.8 blocks per NCAA Tournament game.

Couple Flagg’s dominance with Duke’s status as national-championship favorite (-110 at BetMGM), and it’s understandable why he is the most likely player to win MOP.

Walter Clayton, Florida (+340)

There is a case for Clayton to win over Flagg even, since the Florida guard has been a more dominant scorer (22.3 points per game) in the tournament.

The other consensus All-American, aside from Flagg and Broome, Clayton has been filling the stat sheet all season (18.1 point, 4.2 assists, 3.6 rebounds, 1.2 steals per game). If the Gators win it all, it’s safe to assume Clayton will win the honors — even if they defeat Flagg and Duke.

Johni Broome, Auburn (+700)

Even though Tahaad Pettiford also is one of players among the 10-shortest odds for MOP, Broome should be considered the Tigers’ candidate, unless this arm injury he sustained in the Elite 8 against Michigan State becomes a factor.

At these odds, wagering Broome to claim MOP is a solid investment, even though the Tigers are an underdog against Florida due to their head-to-head loss in Auburn on Feb. 8.
