NCAA Tournament: Alabama-Maryland tipoff set for 2nd round game

Alabama men’s basketball will be in primetime on Saturday night. The No. 1 Crimson Tide will play No. 8 Maryland in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at 8:40 p.m. CT. TBS will broadcast the contest from Birmingham’s Legacy Arena.

Alabama blew past Texas A&M-Corpus Christi despite zero points from Brandon Miller, winning 96-75 on Thursday. Maryland outlasted West Virginia, 67-65, with first-year head coach Kevin Willard.

The Crimson Tide’s tumultuous off-the-court season continued as well. An armed security guard continued to follow the Crimson Tide’s star freshman after he received threats. And a day after the New York Times reported freshman walk-on Kai Spears was present at the Jan. 15 fatal shooting on the Tuscaloosa strip, Spears’s family, attorney and the university have each refuted the story.

Alabama opens as an 8.5-point favorite (The Lines) over the Terrapins.
