One weekend down, two to go. Two wins down, four to go. That’s the situation that the Auburn Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide currently find themselves in.

The state of Alabama has two of the final 16 teams standing in the NCAA tournament, and both of them are favored to move on to the Elite Eight over the weekend.

This isn’t much of a surprise for either team. Auburn entered the tournament as the No. 1 overall seed and widely shared top-3 odds to win the National Championship alongside Duke and Florida. Alabama entered the tournament as a No. 2 seed and widely had the best odds to win it all from a non-No. 1 seed.

Now, the competition gets tough and these two top programs get to prove their mettle.

Can Auburn win as the top overall seed?

Auburn was ranked as the top team in the country by the NCAA Tournament selection committee, and they certainly have an opportunity to prove them right. They’ll get their next chance to hit the court on Friday night.

Auburn favored over Michigan

Fans of Auburn will have to wait until the late window on Friday for their team to hit the court. While the wait may not be ideal, oddsmakers are expecting them to take care of business in the Sweet 16 against Michigan.

Michigan showed their potential in the second round, beating Texas A&M rather comfortably as a slight betting underdog. With that being said, based on the moneyline odds, Auburn has over an 80% implied probability of defeating Michigan.

Final Four odds: Auburn odds-on favorite

Oddsmakers are expecting Auburn to survive this weekend and participate in the Final Four next weekend in San Antonio. In order to get there, Auburn would need to beat Michigan and then beat the winner of BYU-Michigan State. Here are the current odds for Auburn to make the Final Four at various sportsbooks:

FanDuel thinks that Auburn has the best chance to move on to the Final Four, while Caesars Sportsbook offers bettors the best value on that line.

Can Alabama surprise?

According to the betting odds at top March Madness sportsbooks, Alabama is likely to be eliminated this weekend, even though it is favored in its opening Sweet 16 matchup against BYU.

If Alabama is able to survive BYU on Thursday night, they will face the winner of Duke and Arizona on Saturday. With how dominant Duke has looked in recent games, that’ll be an extremely tough challenge. Oddsmakers don’t like Alabama’s chances.

Can Alabama win it all as a long shot?

There’s no denying that Alabama is a fun team to watch. They play at the quickest pace in college basketball and have the fourth-most-efficient offensive unit in the country. Their defense isn’t awful, but there’s concern if it’s championship-level. Despite being a deserving two-seed, you can get solid odds on Alabama to win the tournament.
