NC State radio announcer suspended for ‘illegal aliens’ comment during Duke’s Mayo Bowl

NC State radio play-by-play announcer Gary Hahn has been suspended indefinitely after comments he made during Friday’s Duke’s Mayo Bowl.

Hahn was giving a score update for the Sun Bowl.

“One other bowl game involving an ACC team going on,” he said. “That’s the Sun Bowl. And amongst all the illegal aliens down in El Paso, it’s UCLA 14 and Pittsburgh 6.”

“LEARFIELD has suspended Wolfpack Sports Network Play-by-Play announcer Gary Hahn indefinitely following comments made during today’s Duke’s Mayo Bowl radio broadcast,” a statement released read.

Hahn has been with NC State since 1991 as the voice of Wolfpack football and basketball.

Taulia Tagovailoa threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Octavian Smith, Chad Ryland kicked three field goals and Maryland outlasted No. 25 North Carolina State 16-12 to win the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. Jakorian Bennett was named the game’s Most Valuable Player. Ben Finley completed 22 of 48 passes for 269 yards with two interceptions and couldn’t find the end zone. Maryland finished 8-5.
