The Thunder lost their opening Summer League game, as many players struggled to shoot efficiently. Specifically, the team’s first round rookie Dillon Jones shot 4-11 from the field and 1-5 from beyond the arc. Although it was not a terrible showing, his nine points were not enough to give Oklahoma City a win.
The 11th overall pick from the 2022 NBA Draft also struggled for Oklahoma City last night, as Ousmane Dieng shot 3-14 from the field and only scored 10 points. With this poor performance behind him, Dieng will try to play much better this evening.
Utah won their first Summer League match 97-95 in overtime, which was largely due to their second-year player Keyonte George. He finished the night with 30 points, even though he shot 5-21 from the field. Most of George’s points came from the free throw line, where he scored 17 points. Notably, George will likely be out of the lineup for tonight’s game, as the team wants to give him a rest day.
Due to George’s absence, the Jazz will need their first round selection from this year’s draft to step up. Cody Williams had a decent performance during his first NBA Summer League game, scoring six points in limited minutes. He ended up shooting 3-5 from the field, which showcases his offensive ability. Since George is likely going to miss tonight’s game, fans can expect Williams to be much more aggressive offensively this evening.
