The first NBA Summer League matchup tonight features some talented rookies, including first round picks Nikola Topic and Jared McCain. Topic was selected by the Thunder with the 12th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, while McCain was selected 16th by the 76ers. Tonight’s game will be the first NBA Summer League action for both of these players, which will make this matchup exciting to watch.
Topic is just 18 years old and is entering the league from Serbia, where he was an incredible passer and playmaker. Due to his young age, Topic still has plenty of time to develop and become a great NBA guard.
McCain is a couple of years older than Topic and played collegiate basketball at Duke. He played one season at the college level and averaged more than 14 points per game. McCain shot greater than 40% from beyond the arc during that period, which will make him a perimeter threat for Philadelphia this year.
There will also be plenty of other talent on the court tonight, including 2024 NCAA Tournament standout Jack Gohlke. He was not selected during the draft, but his impeccable shooting in college earned him a spot on the Oklahoma City roster tonight.
Gohlke scored 32 points to lead 14th seeded Oakland University past #3 Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament this year, which was an unbelievable upset. If he continues to shoot the ball at a high level throughout the NBA Summer League, he could earn himself a contract with Oklahoma City this year.
