National Right to Life Committee backs Brewbaker in 2nd District

The National Right to Life Committee has endorsed Dick Brewbaker in the Republican runoff in Alabama’s 2nd congressional district.

Brewbaker, a former state senator from Montgomery and longtime automobile dealer, faces Montgomery attorney Caroleene Dobson in the April 16 runoff in the redrawn 2nd District.

The Republican nominee will face the winner Democratic runoff between former U.S. Justice Department official Shomari Figures of Mobile and House Minority Leader Anthony Daniels of Huntsville.

The National Right to Life Committee, founded in 1968, describes itself as the nation’s oldest and largest anti-abortion organization, with more than 3,000 local chapters.

“We look forward to working with you in Congress,” NRLC President Carol Tobias said about Brewbaker. “Thank you for joining us in building an America where the lives of unborn babies are protected and their mothers receive the support they need to make life-affirming decisions.”

Brewbaker led the eight-candidate field in the March 5 Republican primary, receiving 22,589 votes, or 37%. Dobson finished second with 15,102 votes, or 25%.

“The voices of real conservatives will be heard on April 16,” Brewbaker said in a press release from his campaign. “This endorsement gives voters insight and guidance on who to support if they want to be on the side of life.”

The Alabama Farmers Federation endorsed Dobson in January.
