National home improvement store closing all stores, including 7 Alabama locations
National home improvement chain LL Flooring, formerly known as Lumber Liquidators, is closing all locations after failing to find a buyer for the chain.
LL Flooring announced earlier in August it was filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and would close almost 100 of its 400 locations, including the Tuscaloosa store. However, in a statement released this week, LL said negotiations with “multiple bidders” fell through and it will now begin “winding down the business (to) deliver the most value to its creditors.”
“This is not the outcome that we had hoped for, and as we begin to wind down operations, we are committed to doing so as smoothly as possible to minimize the impact on our associates, customers, vendors and the communities we serve,” the company said in a statement.
Going-out-of-business sales will begin Sept. 6 and will be complete in about 12 weeks. CNN reported the closures will cost about 2,000 workers their positions.
Alabama locations that are closing include Birmingham, Dothan, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, Pelham and Tuscaloosa.
LL Flooring began as Lumber Liquidators about 30 years ago with a focus on buying and selling excess inventory from other suppliers. It changed its name from Lumber Liquidators to LL Flooring in 2018 after controversies and lawsuits involving some of its products.
CNN reported customers flooring orders will be fulfilled within 30 days but no new installation appointments will be made.
