Nate Oats, Greg Byrne and Alabama basketball hit Buc-ee’s after fog forces Tide to bus home

Weather wreaked havoc on the Alabama basketball team’s travel schedule Tuesday night after the Crimson Tide’s 78-66 win over Vanderbilt.

So, Nate Oats and Greg Byrne and the boys did what any well-traveled team would do. They called an audible and followed the scent of the chopped brisket barbecue sandwiches.

Byrne, the Alabama athletic director, took to Twitter to share a light moment with Oats, the Alabama coach, during the team’s stop at the Athens’ Buc-ee’s early Wednesday morning. The Tide had to bus home after fog impacted the team’s ability to fly.

As you know, Buc-ee’s is a convenience store oasis for any traveler.

Whether it is brisket, jerky or a sweet treat, the Texas-based chain literally has something for everyone.

If there is a team that could use the downtime, it’s the Crimson Tide.

Freshman Brandon Miller scored 30 points as the fourth-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide beat Vanderbilt 78-66 Tuesday night for their seventh straight victory.

But the win comes two days after a teammate was charged with capital murder. Reserve junior forward Darius Miles was charged Sunday.

Oats said Monday that the Tide was going through a “kind of grieving process.”

The Crimson Tide rebounded well against a team that beat them in the SEC Tournament last March. All of Alabama’s SEC wins have come by double digits.

No word on what the Tide feasted on at Buc-ee’s, but surely, after Wednesday morning’s stop, there has to be an NIL deal coming in the near future for one Alabama player, amirite?
