Mykelti Williamson of ‘Forrest Gump’ directing Hallmark movie filming in Mobile area
Filming has begun on “Spring Breakthrough,” a Hallmark movie directed by “Forrest Gump” actor Mykelti Williamson that is being shot in Mobile and Baldwin counties.
According to information posted by a Mobile-based casting company, Goleman casting, the production started about three weeks of shooting on Sunday. Casting calls for extras and stand-ins posted earlier this month suggest that the film’s settings will include a college, air travel and a vacation destination: Roles for extras included resort employees and guests, spa employees and guests and “tiki employees” and “tiki partiers.”
While little information about the film has been publicly released, Ron Goleman of Goleman Casting said in a January Facebook post that Mykelti Williamson was directing the project for Hallmark. Williamson played the character Bubba in “Forrest Gump;” other films in which he has appeared have included “Lucky Number Slevin,” “Heat,” “Con Air” and “Ali.” He also has had numerous TV roles, including the recurring character Ellstin Limehouse in “Justified” and Preston Webb in “Law and Order: Organized Crime.”
According to the Internet Movie Database, Williamson had directed episodes of several TV shows including “Chicago Med” and “Chicago P.D.”
Williamson also was in the cast of “The Holiday Stocking,” a Christmas movie released by Hallmark in 2022.
Goleman said Thursday that extras were still being sought as the film neared the end of its first week of filming. All remaining work will take place in Baldwin County, he said. He said he’d like to see as many Mobile and Baldwin County residents in the project as possible, but that residents of the surrounding area also were encouraged to submit.
