Murder warrant issued for Birmingham man in weekend beating death of 63-year-old victim

Formal charges have been filed against the suspect accused in the weekend beating death of a 63-year-old man.

Terrell Dewayne Humphrey II is charged with murder in the slaying of Roderick Levann Davis.

North Precinct officers were dispatched at 8:19 a.m. Saturday on a report of a person down in the 400 block of First Street West in Elyton Village.

They arrived to find Davis unresponsive on the ground. He had apparent facial abrasions, said Sgt. LaQuitta Wade.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service responded to the scene and pronounced Davis dead.

Wade said a passerby made the 911 call. It was initially believed that he had died from natural causes and that the abrasions were caused when he fell to the ground.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office notified investigators shortly before 10:30 a.m. Saturday that Davis had been physically assaulted and was the victim of a homicide.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said the victim died from blunt force trauma injuries.

Wade said Humphrey turned himself into police custody.

A motive has not been released.

Humphrey is being held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail.
