Multi-time state champion Alabama football coach stepping down
Orange Beach football coach Jamey DuBose told his team this morning that he was retiring, according to a press release from Orange Beach City schools.
DuBose went 9-11 in two seasons with the Makos, including an 8-3 record and a playoff berth in 2022.
He led Prattville to a pair of state titles as head coach (2008, 2011) and Central-Phenix City to the 2018 Class 7A state title.
DuBose has a 166-56 career record in 18 years as a head coach, including a pair at Lowndes, Ga. He coached two years at Susan Moore, four at Prattville, two at Florence and six at Phenix City.
Orange Beach superintendent Randy Wilkes thanked DuBose for his time in the release Friday and said the search for a new coach will begin Monday.
“Orange Beach City Schools appreciates coach Jamey DuBose and his efforts. He has demonstrated and emphasized character above all else. He has worked closely with parents and has successfully mentored present and post students and colleagues. His drive and determination are extraordinary as is his knowledge of the game, organization of practice and ability to motivate. Coach DuBose is a winner. He will always be welcome on the Mako sideline and in our schools.”
Orange Beach, with just three returnees this year, finished 1-8. DuBose hasn’t immediately returned phone messages from AL.com.
Last Month, the Orange Beach City Council unanimously approved a resolution supporting the construction of a $46 million athletic facility on the middle and high school campus. The facility will include a 3,500-seat football stadium.
