Move over, Brad Pitt: Shania Twain would bump him for Alabama movie star in iconic song revamp
Remember when Channing Tatum got name-checked in a song on “Jimmy Kimmel Live”? Well, Shania Twain just might be ready to top that parody tune, “(I Wanna) Channing All Over Your Tatum.”
The country star recently said she’d replace Brad Pitt’s name with Tatum’s in “That Don’t Impress Me Much,” if she were writing the song today. Pitt famously received a career boost when the country star sang, “Okay, so you’re Brad Pitt,” in her 1998 hit.
During a recent interview with Radio Times magazine, Twain pondered the celebrity switch, saying “It’s Channing Tatum. I’m trying to think how I would sing that … ‘Okay, so you’re Channing Tatum’ – yeah, that works.” (Deadline and other entertainment sites reported Twain’s comment, which appears in the new print issue of the UK publication.)
Evidently, Twain chose Tatum as a new reference point for male pulchritude after seeing a trailer of Tatum’s new movie, “Magic Mike’s Last Dance.” It’s a compliment, but a backhanded one, as the lyrics originally said:
Okay, so you’re Brad Pitt
That don’t impress me much
So you got the looks but have you got the touch
Don’t get me wrong, yeah I think you’re alright
But that won’t keep me warm in the middle of the night
That don’t impress me much
In December, Twain made waves by replacing Pitt’s name with that of Ryan Reynolds, during a performance at the 2022 People’s Choice Awards. (“Sorry not sorry,” Twain said via Twitter.)
There’s no word yet on how Tatum feels about bumping Pitt (and now Reynolds) in the iconic song, but the Alabama-born actor is known to have a sense of humor. Pitt, for his part, was cheerful about Reynolds possibly stealing his thunder, saying during a January interview: “I think we can share the wealth there. Ryan’s a good egg, too. He deserves some love.” (See Pitt’s response in the video below.)
