A motorcyclist was killed over the weekend in a single-vehicle crash in Winston County.

Alabama state troopers identified the fatality victim as Steven M. Smith. He was 46 and lived in Haleyville.

The wreck happened at 3:30 p.m. Sunday on Newberg Road about five miles north of Haleyville, said Senior Trooper Justin O’Neal.

Authorities said Smith was driving a 2000 Honda Valkyrie motorcycle when he left the road and struck a culvert. He was taken to Lakeland Hospital in Haleyville where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing.
