Motorcyclist killed in hit-and-run near Brighton

A 44-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash Sunday night in western Jefferson County.

The wreck happened at 9:10 p.m. in the 4400 block of Ninth Avenue North in the Brighton area, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.

Jayce Bernard Johnson, of Dolomite, was the driver and lone occupant of the motorcycle. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 10:50 p.m.

Authorities said the driver of the other vehicle involved fled. No description has yet been released.

Brighton police and firefighters responded, as did the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation is ongoing by sheriff’s wreck investigators.
