A motorcyclist injured in a wreck with a Mobile patrol car earlier this month has died, police said Tuesday.

Sumner Howard, 67, was operating a motorcycle involved in the accident around 10:53 p.m. July 9 in the area of Old Shell Road and Mobile Infirmary Boulevard, police said.

The officer was not injured but Howard was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

“After honoring the victim’s family’s request for privacy over the last week, we can now confirm the victim has succumbed to his injuries,” police said in a statement Tuesday announcing Howard’s death.

The investigation into the wreck remained ongoing as of late Tuesday morning.
