A 20-year-old Jefferson County mother has been charged in the death of her young son.

Kayla Mariah Nash is charged with felony murder and aggravated child abuse, according to court records made public Tuesday.

Killed was 4-year-old Zane Xavier Nash. Charging documents state Zane died from blunt force trauma.

The child died at 4:15 a.m. Aug. 2 at Children’s of Alabama. The assault is believed to have happened in Forestdale.

Efforts to obtain additional information from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office were not immediately successful.

Nash was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 4:31 p.m. Monday. She remains held without bond.
