Christion was Birmingham’s last homicide victim of 2024, which saw a record number of people die by violence.

Family described Christion as a kind-hearted soul whose laughter, humor, and genuine care for others touched the lives of everyone he met.

“Rickey was more than just a veteran; he was a beacon of joy and love. His sense of humor was infectious, and his ability to keep people smiling, even during difficult times, will always be remembered,’’ family members said in a statement to AL.com.

“Whether it was a funny joke, a lighthearted comment, or his unwavering positivity, Rickey had a special gift for making those around him feel good.”
