‘Most wanted’: Suspect sought in shooting that killed pregnant Birmingham mother, injured 2 girls
A search is underway for the man accused in the shooting death of a pregnant Birmingham mother, and the wounding of two young girls.
Andrew Haweis Goldsmith IV, 34, is charged with capital murder in the slaying of 24-year-old Corieonna Shantrice Hines. He is also charged with attempted murder in the shooting of Hines’ 7-year-old daughter and a 13-year-old girl.
Central Alabama Crime Stoppers has Goldsmith listed as one of its “most wanted” suspects.
“On January 31, 2023, Goldsmith was identified via a dying declaration as the shooter of his pregnant girlfriend and her baby, both of which are deceased, as well as shooting two children ages seven and 13,’’ wrote Bessemer Cutoff Assistant District Attorney Lane Tolbert in a request to revoke Goldsmith’s probation in a previous case.
A judge has issued a warrant for his arrest for probation violation, court records show.
The shooting happened at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at a small apartment complex in the 100 block of Ninth Avenue West.
North Precinct officers arrived on the scene and found Hines and the two girls had sustained gunshot wounds.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced Hines dead on the scene. The two injured girls were taken to the hospital.
“A male entered the apartment and began firing shots at all three victims,’’ Fitzgerald said. “At this time, we believe the motive in this case is domestic in nature.”
“It just makes you ask the question, ‘What have we come to in our society that a grown man feels the need to walk into an apartment and begin to shoot a woman and two small children?’’ Fitzgerald said.
Hines, a mother of two, was also in her first trimester of pregnancy. Family members said Hines’ daughter was shot nine times.
A GoFundMe has been launched to help with Hines’ funeral.
Goldsmith in 2017 was charged with two counts of capital murder and two counts of attempted murder in Midfield, but was acquitted of those charges two years later.
At the time of his Midfield arrest, Goldsmith was already awaiting trial on an attempted murder charge out of Bessemer in a 2016 case where authorities Goldsmith and another man opened fire on a male victim who also was inside a vehicle. He was shot in the neck, arm and foot.
He pleaded guilty to attempted murder in the Bessemer case in 2021 and was sentenced to 20 years in prison with three to serve and five years on probation. It is that case in which prosecutors are seeking to revoke his probation.
Goldsmith in 2013 pleaded guilty to felony drug possession and unlawful breaking and entering of a vehicle. He was sentenced to four years in prison, with one to serve.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
