Most popular baby names: Here’s the new list from Social Security Administration

That’s the takeaway from the Social Security Administration’s new list of most popular baby names for girls and boys born in 2023. Once again, Olivia and Liam and the most popular names, the fifth consecutive year for them to claim the titles. Also, for the fifth consecutive year, Emma was the second most-popular name for girls, the same for Noah.
The data is compiled from information parents supply when applying for Social Security cards when their child is born. The agency began compiling the baby names list in 1997, with names dating back to 1880.
Only one new name showed up in the top 10 lists this year – Mateo, which came in at number six.
