An investigation is underway after a woman was shot Tuesday morning in west Birmingham.

The shooting happened just before 6:30 a.m. in the 900 block of Pike Road. Additional details surrounding the circumstances have not yet been released.

Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said the woman was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

No one is in custody.
