More than 90 dogs seized in north Alabama animal cruelty, abuse investigation

Tuscumbia police today removed 22 dogs and puppies from a residential property, one of two mass seizures of dogs in northwest Alabama.

This came a day after WAAY reported that the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office removed 45 adult dogs and 24 puppies from a property in Center Star after an investigation spanning months.

Tuscumbia Police Chief Tony Logan said officers, along with Colbert County Animal Control, executed a search warrant at 1404 Decatur Street this morning.

The action came after a weeklong investigation into reports of abused and neglected dogs being housed or tethered at the residence, Logan said.

Officers from Tuscumbia, Sheffield and the Colbert County Sheriff’s Office assisted in crowd control during the action.

Logan said investigators believe their case is linked to the Lauderdale County one.

Several of the animals had injuries or were malnourished and will have to have medical care, he said.

“No arrest have been made in this case but we feel charges could be forthcoming at the conclusion of the investigation,” he said.
