More strong storms possible today in Alabama
More strong to even marginally severe storms will be possible across Alabama today, according to forecasters.
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center is maintaining a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather today (Thursday) for most of the southern half of the state.
A Level 1 risk means isolated severe storms will be possible.
No tornadoes are expected with today’s storms. Instead, the strongest storms could have wind gusts capable of downing trees and power lines, hail and heavy rain.
Storms on Wednesday caused flash flooding in parts of northwest Alabama and knocked down a few trees and generated hail reports for other parts of north and central Alabama.
More of the same could be possible today, according to the National Weather Service.
Rain and storms will be possible throughout the day today, but the best time for stronger storms to develop will be this afternoon into the evening hours.
More chances for rain and storms will be in the forecast for Friday and Saturday, but widespread severe weather isn’t expected.
Look for temperatures to be on the increase this weekend, with widespread highs in the 90s possible by Sunday.
