More record highs in Alabama on Tuesday
The heat was on across parts of Alabama on Tuesday.
Several cities had record highs for March 7, according to the National Weather Service.
Montgomery was the warmest, hitting 87 degrees on Tuesday and breaking the record of 85 set in 1956. That is 17 degrees above normal for this time of year, according to the weather service.
Mobile was just about as warm. Its high was 86 degrees, which smashed the record of 82 degrees that was set in 1925, according to the weather service. Mobile’s temperature was 16 degrees above normal.
Tuscaloosa also joined the club, reaching 85 degrees and breaking the record of 84 set in 1956. That’s 19 degrees above normal for the date.
This could be the last day for summerlike temperatures for a while. Cooler air is expected to move into Alabama on Wednesday, and highs will “only” reach the 60s and 70s in the state, according to weather service forecasts.
Cooler temperatures are expected to persist into next week as well.
