More record highs for Alabama on Sunday
More record heat was the story across Alabama on Sunday.
Mobile continued its record-breaking streak, hitting a sizzling 105 degrees on Sunday, according to data from the National Weather Service.
That was enough to break the record for Aug. 27, which had been 97 degrees and was set in 2000.
But it wasn’t enough to break the city’s all-time record high, which it just set on Saturday when the mercury hit 106 degrees.
Montgomery also managed to hit the triple digits and broke a record high. Montgomery’s high of 102 degrees on Sunday broke the record of 101 set in 1938.
Some of the state will catch a bit of a break from the past week’s unseasonably hot temperatures starting on Monday.
Highs in north Alabama could stay in the 80s on Monday, according to forecasts from the weather service. Some spots may be lucky enough to only reach the low 80s.
That won’t be the case for south Alabama, however, which is expected to have to deal with 90s again for highs. (See Monday’s forecast at the top of this post.)
More “cooler” temperatures are expected statewide on Tuesday:
And Alabama forecasters will be watching the track for Tropical Storm Idalia closely in case the storm’s path were to shift back toward Alabama. As of Sunday night, however, the storm is expected to stay east of Alabama.
