More isolated severe storms possible today in Alabama
Isolated severe thunderstorms will again be possible for parts of Alabama today (Friday), according to forecasters.
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has added a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather for the northwest part of the state for today.
A Level 1 risk means that isolated severe storms will be possible.
The Storm Prediction Center was watching storms over Mississippi on Friday afternoon. Those storms, or outflow boundaries from them, could develop or intensify this afternoon and move into Alabama as temperatures rise.
The strongest storms could bring winds capable of downing tree limbs or power lines as well as heavy rain. The National Weather Service in Birmingham said small hail could also be possible.
Storms could be efficient rain producers. NOAA’s Weather Prediction Center also has northwest Alabama in a Level 2 out of 4 risk for flash flooding.
Some spots in north Alabama have already gotten enough rain today to prompt flood advisories.
Alabama will face chances for scattered rain and storms on Saturday as well, but as of now no organized severe weather is expected tomorrow.
