More excessive heat expected in Alabama today but relief is coming soon
Another day of oppressive heat is in the forecast for Alabama — but some will get a break starting on Tuesday.
Almost all of Alabama will be under excessive heat warnings on Monday. Air temperatures are expected to climb into the mid- to upper 90s today. Those temperatures, combined with continued high humidity levels, will make it feel much hotter today.
The National Weather Service said the heat index, or “feels like” temperature, could go as high as 115 degrees in parts of the state this afternoon.
But some relief is on the horizon. A cooldown is forecast for north Alabama starting on Tuesday, and highs may stay in the low 80s for some. That “cooler” air won’t make it all the way to the coast, however. South Alabama is expected to have temperatures well into the 90s on Tuesday.
Here is the forecast for Tuesday:
