Moody plans 6.7-acre entertainment center with bowling alley, trampoline park

A family entertainment center off Interstate 20 could open in Moody by late 2024.

The city entered into a development agreement Monday for the 60,000-square-foot project, which would feature a bowling alley, trampoline park and other attractions, and serve as the anchor for an entertainment district.

The city’s agreement with Signature Developments and Starz events would place the project on a 6.7 acre patch currently owned by the city’s commercial development authority (CDA).

According to the city, the agreement would allow the transfer of the property to the developer with certain personal and business guarantees to repay the city the appraised value of the property over 10 years. The developer has 24 months to open.

Developer Shafiq Samji said the center will be “customized to the interest of the local citizens.”

“Moody is a fast-growing community with incredible potential, and we believe this project is a perfect fit,” Samji said. “We would like to open the facility today, but much of the equipment is specialized and will require a number of months to receive and have installed after the building is constructed.”

Moody Mayor Joe Lee said the fact that the CDA owned the property gave the city leeway on what to locate there.

“This is a project both the citizens and our council have wanted to see in our community,” Lee said. “People expressed a desire to see more family entertainment options during our recent community input session for city’s comprehensive plan, Moody at the Crossroads.”
