Montgomery teen charged with capital murder in slaying of 27-year-old man during robbery of iPhone

A Montgomery teen has been charged with capital murder in the June slaying of a 27-year-old man during a robbery.

Zephaniah Keilan Lowery, 19, is charged with capital murder in the June 18 killing of Darius Gunn.

Officers and fire medics were dispatched at 11:57 p.m. that Monday to a report of a person shot at the Chevron gas station in the 1000 block of Easter Boulevard.

Gunn had been shot in the head and was pronounced dead on the scene.

A witness told police Lowery planned to rob Gunn of his iPhone and shoot him because he was present at his sister’s stabbing, according to charging documents.

The Montgomery Police Department’s Special Operations unit took Lowery into custody on Thursday, said police Maj. Saba Coleman.

Lowery was booked into the Montgomery County Detention Facility at 7:07 a.m. Friday and remains held without bond.
