Montgomery man charged with capital murder in November killing of 47-year-old victim

A Montgomery man was taken into custody Thursday by a federal task force and charged with capital murder in the mid-November slaying of a 47-year-old man, police said Friday.

The victim, identified as 47-year-old Montgomery resident Nakel Johnson, was found with fatal injuries in the 2300 block of Boyd Spring Road around 3:30 p.m. Nov. 15 in Lapine, in unincorporated Montgomery County, said Montgomery police Capt. Saba Coleman.

During the probe into Johnson’s death, officers learned he was last seen in the 3400 block of Mobile Highway in Montgomery, Coleman said.

The circumstances and cause of Johnson’s death was not immediately known, prompting a death investigation. His body was taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for an autopsy.

The investigation revealed Johnson was the victim of a homicide, Coleman said.

Jonathan Hoover, 27, of Montgomery, was charged with capital murder in Johnson’s death.

Hoover was taken into custody Thursday by the U.S. Marshals Task Force and then jailed in the Montgomery County Detention Facility.

Further information was unavailable as the investigation continued.
