Montgomery Academy tennis player reaches 100-win milestone

Montgomery Academy senior Whit Davis won the 100th match of his career on Friday, a rarity for high school tennis players.

Davis defeated Reece Beckendorf of St. Paul’s (La.) 6-1 in a rain-shortened match in Mobile.

Davis is just the fourth player in MA history to reach the 100-win mark and is closing in on the record for wins currently held by James Torbert at 112.

Other Eagles to reach 100 wins are Brett Lalacci (1996) and Bo Torbert (2016). James Torbert reached the mark in 2019.

Davis already has won individual state championships in the 1A-3A, 4A-5A and 6A divisions and has been a part of team championships in each of those divisions.

The Eagles are playing in Class 7A this year due to the AHSAA’s competitive balance rule for private schools.
