Montgomery Academy receiver Derrick Vinson commits to in-state program
A top prospect from Montgomery County is off the board.
Montgomery Academy wide receiver Derrick Vinson committed to in-state program Jacksonville State, he announced on social media Tuesday night.
The three-star prospect picked the Conference USA program over offers that included Tennessee, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Appalachian State and South Florida.
He marks the second commitment for Jax State on Tuesday, joining Walton (Ga.) High School running back Lucas Farrington.
Vinson is graded as the No. 60 overall prospect in the state of Alabama and the sixth-graded in-state wide receiver prospect.
The 6-foot-4, 200-pound receiver finished his senior season with 64 catches for 1,313 yards and 17 touchdowns; he also finished with 42 tackles and six interceptions on defense.
He was named a second-team all-state honoree at wide receiver last season.
Class 3A No. 9 Montgomery Academy finished 10-2 and advanced to the second round of the playoffs before falling to Southside-Selma, which advanced to the 3A semifinals.
He will add to a 2025 recruiting class that includes:
