· Tight end Sal Cannella (Auburn) was waived by the Seattle Seahawks. Cannella didn’t sign with the Seahawks until Aug. 21, but he had a reception in last week’s preseason game. Cannella was the All-USFL tight end for the New Orleans Breakers in 2022 and played for the Arlington Renegades as they won the 2023 XFL championship.

· Cornerback Zyon Gilbert (Jeff Davis) was waived by the New York Giants with an injury designation. If he isn’t claimed by another team by the waiver deadline of 11 a.m. CDT Wednesday, Gilbert will revert to the Giants’ injured reserve. Gilbert played in three games with New York last season. He sustained a hamstring injury in the Giants’ preseason finale on Saturday.

· Offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood (Alabama) was waived by the Chicago Bears. (The Bears had announced they were letting Leatherwood go on Sunday night.)

· Linebacker Kelle Sanders (UAB) was waived by the Baltimore Ravens. Sanders was trying to make the team as a rookie free agent.

· Punter Corliss Waitman (South Alabama) was waived by the New England Patriots. Waitman lost the competition to be New England’s punter to rookie Bryce Baringer. Waitman led the NFL with 96 punts last season for the Denver Broncos. He averaged 46.6 yards per punt.

NFL teams are cutting players to reduce their 90-man preseason rosters to the regular-season limit of 53 by 3 p.m. CDT Tuesday.
