Mobile woman reportedly shot at man in barber shop, threw chemical substance on him

A woman walked into a Mobile barber shop Wednesday, assaulted a man by throwing a chemical agent on him and firing shots at him, according to police.

Mobile police were called to Fade Away Barber Shop about 1 p.m. Wednesday. Officers responding to the call learned the suspect had entered the business armed with a gun, engaged in a verbal altercation with the man, prevented him from leaving and then “proceeded to douse him with a chemical agent,” according to a report from the Mobile Police Department.

The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Lea Claudette Freeman, also fired a shot at the victim, but missed. The man was ultimately able to escape and contact police. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Freeman was taken into custody and charged with domestic violence/assault, domestic violence/menacing, shooting into an occupied building, theft, unlawful imprisonment, and obstruction of justice/providing false identity. Freeman also had multiple outstanding warrants for her arrest, including 2nd-degree theft.

Freeman has a lengthy criminal history, according to court and jail records, which includes priors for menacing, witness intimidation, child welfare endangerment and domestic violence.
